None have worked for me. It seems everyone has this problem with the on-board SigmaTel chip, but no one has a fix. I wanted to go back to x64 bit of Vista, and after that, none of the fixes worked, not even my own. I may end up in the end trying that before I am all done. But it did it with XP too. Bad sound is unrepairable?? Thank you for such a detailed response. Some people have had Dell swap out their motherboards and some the whole cell. You must log in or sign up to reply here. Other have said it’s the the Sigmatel drivers and vista.
It is not just the laptop I have, it is a lot of models Dell sells and also have seen other brands with complaints too. Manually look at manufacturer’s sites for drivers – and Device Maker’s sites. This thread is locked. Sorry this didn’t help.

It had all the plastic wrapping etc. From my reading it does this on every OS, 32bit or 64bit.
Start again if you are happy to do soknd. Go for it or take a “workaround “, it’s up to you. It would be good if you found a fix. I’m running Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit. Hello Mattman, I will give the adapter a try. This problem is driving me crazy.
